Wardrobe Reactions

I thought it might be fun to share some strange reactions my lovely wardrobe has elicited from others. Just because, you know, it's always fun to get weird looks! There are rather a lot of instances when I've turned heads, mostly because I live in suburbia half the time and a teeny tiny town (that can't really be called suburbia) the other half. It's weird because when I go out wearing things I know will cause reactions, I always get very bizarre comments that I don't expect.

When bracing for the typical: "Did you just come from a funeral?" "Are you a witch?" and other such witty comments, it's strange (but fun) to get things like:
  1. Walking into the library wearing my rat tail and ears that I made for a Halloween costume (a la Emilie Autumn). The librarian looks up, smiles sympathetically and says: "Oh honey, did you lose a bet?" Nope, not a bet. My sanity perhaps... :)
  2. Walking into the supermarket in a poorly constructed veil (wince). A little girl comes up to me and says, "Can I please please be your flower girl? When is your wedding?" Daww!
  3. In the midst of a serious discussion in science class with my teacher. I was wearing a dark green velvet coat. She pauses and asks, "Can I please pet you?" I let her. :)
  4. First time wearing my pentacle to school. A boy in class approaches and points to my necklace. "Is that a Horcrux?" D'oh!
  5. Walking hurriedly home from a late night library trip. An elderly rather bohemian man stops me and says: "I like yo' hair sister. Ain't nobody else got hair like that. You keep doin' what you're doin'." Isn't it nice to get compliments from strangers?

  1. I like having comments like the last one, when people just seem to enjoy the fact that you are doing what you want with fashion instead of following the mainstream. It always makes me smile.

I've gotten the 'did you lose a bet' comment too.
